RZ/G3S MPU with Arm® Cortex®-A55 CPU and Dual-Core Cortex-M33 CPU

Renesas' RZ/G3S MPU includes a Cortex-A55 (1.1 GHz) CPU, 16-bit LPDDR4 or DDR4 interface, low-power mode, and several interfaces including PCIe, CAN FD, and a 12-bit ADC, making it ideal for IoT edge applications. The RZ/G3S is designed with separated power domains for a significant reduction of the MPU power consumption, enabling the implementation of IoT gateway products with low power consumption. The DDR memory self-refresh function support in combination with the power mode enables low power consumption during standby and a quick return of Linux applications.

The RZ/G3S uses the Cortex-A55 and delivers high CPU performance. The MPU is equipped with two Cortex-M33 sub-cores, which can acquire data from sensors and control the entire system, power supply, and more. This makes it possible to reduce the load on the main CPU by distributing processing within the system and reduce component costs for the entire system by incorporating processing into the MPU. The MPU also supports PCIe and can be connected to 5G communication modules at high speed.

The RZ/G3S supports a memory error detection/correction (ECC) function and uses CIP Linux to achieve the high reliability that is required for industrial applications. The functionality of IoT gateways extends to a variety of applications. Application challenges include device miniaturization, power saving, and compliance with wireless communication standards. The evaluation board in a SMARC form factor allows customers to easily evaluate the functionality of RZ/G3S devices.
